SOLID WOOD FURNITURE CARE
How to care for solid wood furniture?
Caring for solid wood furniture is essential to preserve its beauty and durability. Here are some general care guidelines:
1. Regular Cleaning
-
-
Dusting: Use a soft dusting brush or cloth to remove dust. Do this at least once a week.
-
Damp Cloth: Use a slightly damp soft cloth to remove dirt. Be sure the cloth is not too wet, as excess moisture can damage the wood.
-
Cleaning Products: Avoid harsh cleaning products as they can damage the wood. Use specially designed furniture cleaners for wood.
-
2. Protection
-
-
Sunlight: Avoid placing furniture in direct sunlight, as UV rays can cause color changes and fading.
-
Hot Items: Do not place hot objects directly on the wood. Always use coasters or hot pads.
-
Liquids: Prevent liquids from spilling onto the furniture. If liquid does spill, wipe it up immediately to avoid water stains.
-
3. Finishing
-
-
Oiling: Solid wood furniture needs regular oiling, especially if the wood has an oil finish. Use the appropriate oil for the furniture and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
-
Waxing: Waxed surfaces also require regular maintenance to keep their protective layer and shine.
-
Varnishing: If the furniture is varnished, it may need to be revarnished periodically to prevent damage and maintain its protective coat.
-
4. Preventing and Repairing Damage
-
-
Scratches and Dents: Use special wood fillers or crayons to fix small scratches. For deeper damage, professional restoration may be necessary.
-
Protective Pads: Install protective pads on the feet of the furniture to avoid scratching the floor and damage during movement.
-
5. Moisture and Temperature Control
-
-
Humidity: Keep the room's humidity levels stable, ideally between 40-60%. Excessive dryness or moisture can damage the wood.
-
Temperature: Avoid placing furniture near heat sources like radiators, heaters, or other heat sources.

Example of a Real-Life Situation
Sometimes, accidents can happen despite all precautions. For instance, one of our clients once had a small amount of stove cleaner drip onto their kitchen countertop. Wiping it off didn’t help, as the cleaner was very strong and left an etched stain on the wood.
In such cases, you can always turn to us – our workshop can restore the damaged surface and give your countertop a new life. Depending on the extent of the damage, we can remove the stain, refinish the surface, and, if necessary, apply a new protective coating so that your kitchen furniture looks beautiful and durable again.
It’s not always necessary to bring the countertop to our factory – in many cases, we can carry out minor restoration work right in the client’s home. For example, in the case of kitchen furniture with water damage or other localized issues, we can renew the surface and refresh the furniture’s appearance without replacing the entire countertop.
Proper care of solid wood furniture ensures its long lifespan and helps maintain its aesthetic appearance. Regular maintenance and reasonable preventive measures are the key factors in keeping your furniture in excellent condition.
